The Most Undecipherable Painting Genre: Abstract Art

Every novice being in the world of art often finds it hard to comprehend the meaning of several paintings. These paintings are the ones that are far away from realism but are still full of charisma. You will not be able to recognize these paintings as there are no identifiable objects in these paintings.

However, if you will ask an art collector who has been following his passion for collecting art since years, you will find a significant amount of famous abstract paintings in his collection.

Nonetheless, let’s have a look at what abstract art is and some other FAQs related to the same.

What exactly is Abstract Art?

Abstract art is the representation of the artist’s emotions through certain lines, shapes, and colors. Abstract Art is all about being open to what the emotions make the artist paint. The art is said to be an illustration of the feelings and emotions of an artist at that time. The artists mostly are unaware of what the abstraction in the art they are making will look like in the end.

What is the main idea behind the creation of famous abstract paintings?

The main principle behind its creation is to have a painting style which isn’t inspired by some mythological character or a landscape etc. rather have something which is completely theirs. Artists wanted to let the juices of their creativity flow beyond limits and this is how this art form emerged.

Who made the First abstract painting?

Though many of you would think that Jackson Pollock or Wassily Kandinsky, either of them was the first one to make abstract paintings but in reality, it’s just because the paintings they made have come in the notice of many who have criticized or appreciated them.

However, the title goes to Hilma af Klint, a Swedish artist who was born in 1862.

What are the different forms of Abstract Art?

Abstract art was highly swayed by surrealism and cubism. The main focus of both of them was a depiction of natural world through an artist’s view or feelings.

Moreover, this has further triggered three ways of representing this non-figurative art form that are Romanticism, Impressionism, and expressionism. Art experts have divided abstract art primarily into three types:

Cubism: Cubism is a form of abstract artwork that uses geometrical and solid forms to represent its subjects. It is an influential art movement in 20th century, the objects are broken and assembled in an abstract form instead of sketching with free hand.

Neo-plasticism: This form was developed by Piet Mondrian depicting austere and geometrical style of concrete art. This style of art uses straight lines or rectangular areas for making bold colors differentiable.

Abstract expressionism: Many famous abstract paintings belong to this form of abstract painting.  Abstract expressionism focuses on the spontaneous, automatic and intrinsic method of creating a painting. Jackson Pollock was the prolific artist who produced this form of artwork.
