Jukka Nopsanen was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1950. He graduated the the Academy of Fine Arts in 1973. Since 1970 he has 30 solo-exhibitions in Finland and two - abroad. Jukka Nopsanen is a member of the Finnish Painters Union since 1974 and of the Painters Union of Helsinki since 1975. He has won a lot of prizes for his art: I and III prizes, the competition arranged by Nokia for the students of The Academy 1973. I prize, the competition arranged by the USA Embassy for the students of The Academy 1973. II prize, The Painting Competition arranged by State 1977. I prize, the Altar Painting of Pedersцre church 1991.

When did you start to be interested in art? Why did you choose to draw?

I have been interesteed in art so long I can remember. My both parents and two uncles and a cousin were painters and I used to observe and imitate them. I didn't choose to draw but I painted in watercolours since having three years old. I ever could not see any other way of life.

Do you remember your first artwork, what was it like?

  I cannot remember my first artwork, but some of the earliest ones still exist. They are paintings, soft, dark and abstract ones. >>
