Alejandro Manriquez

When did you start to be interested in art? Why did you choose to draw?

I think I started to draw since my early teens, I have never never chose to draw what I always done, what I'm sure it never chose "stop drawing".

Do you remember your first artwork, what was it like?

A painting for a contest, I was 17 years and it costs me much efforts to be accomplished.

What are your favourite topics and why? Is there anything you would not depict?  What are your favourite topics and why? Is there anything you would not depict?

My favorite subject is humanity. What are my works show not long ago.

How education has influenced your creativity and changed your professional way?

I graduated in visual arts, I think my education helped me to understand the work of great masters of world art. But I think the most sensible of all education is the self-taught.

From which authors do you get inspiration?

In many, Borges, Hesse, Foucault to name a few.

What, do you think is the place of visual arts in today's life? Do you think art can influence the public life?

I think the visual arts as well as other artistic activities are necessary for defining human beings as such, that means it is a fundamental element in building the kind, but I think its impact on public life is disappearing because man is changing but I have no idea when it will become.

Do you think that nationality has its place in art?

Nationality is a concept I do not like because its end is the division.

Which books are you reading lately?

Borges' The Aleph, the second time, is an inexhaustible work I like to illustrate in the future.

Are there any projects you are working on at the moment?

I'm working on my next exhibition which will be between the months of September and October 2010 in the cultural center "Faces and Masks" of the city of Buenos Aires, capital city of Argentina.

How do you see your future?

In the future I see myself as an artist.

Would you say in one sentence what is the art for you?

I would say about art in my life that "I paint to breathe."
