When did you start to be interested in art? Why did you choose to draw?
I have been interested in art since I was 15 and I chose to draw because I was a good drawer. It was the only activity I could exercise, and I loved it.
Do you remember your first artwork? What was it like?
Yes, I remember it. It was an abstract painting realized with toothpaste and wax. I used what I had on hand. At the time, I was homeless.
What are your favorite topics and why ? Is there anything you would not depict ?
I try to paint a lot of things: I paint abstract and figurative artworks, but I prefer to work in abstract techniques. I do not have favorite topics, but I have a favorite painting technique: the dripping technique, the same as J. Pollock used.
How has education influenced your creativity and changed your professional way ?
I am an autodidact. Once, I wanted to paint, and I owe it to no education.
Which artists do you get inspiration from ?
Pollock, Miro, Kandinsky, Dali', Magritte inspire me.
What do you think is the place of visual arts in today’s life? Do you think art can influence the public life ?
I think visual arts can open our minds, make us think about the world. It can even change someone. Consequently, I think it influences the public life.
Do you think that nationality has its place in art?
No, I do not think so. Art is universal. It belongs to no nation.
Which books have you been reading lately?
I have been reading especially art books.
Are there any projects you are working on at the moment?
Sculpture attracts me more and more.
How do you see your future?
I do not know. I can just say that an artist’s life is very hard.
Could you say in one sentence what art is for you?
For me, art is a kind of therapy, a self-transcendence, a way to escape from the real world to better immerse in the unreal.
